Based on the research and work from Todd Zakrajsek & John Sweller, this session will focus on how cognitive load impacts student outcomes and provide tools so instructors can develop specific activities and lesson plans to help students deepen their learning. If we want our learners to learn, we need to think about the cognitive load we are placing on them with our teaching – as with everything in life, balance is important. Additionally, we'll look at how cognitive load affects collaborative learning. Finally, participants will gain practical instructional strategies they can use in their lessons to reduce high cognitive load.
