Engaging and Empowering a Changing Learner
This session is designed to really look critically at how we can make education meaningful for a changing learner. This session will focus on (1) how the definition of meaningful work is changing in the entertainment age, (2) how the process of learning and gathering information is changing in the information age, and (3) what these changes mean for our classroom. The beginning of the session will focus on exploring the cultural and technological changes our learners are being raised in, and the majority of the session will focus on thinking about and analyzing different ways to incorporate these changes–things like a mastery mindset, a focus on purposeful creation for an audience, and shifting from information-delivery to empowering students through inquiry–into your own classroom. There will be a thinking guide to help session participants intentionally plan out both immediate application for their classroom as well as a long-term plan for making larger changes in their philosophy.
